comprehensive consultation for families and teens

At Creekside Therapy we know that there are times when a family and teen can feel totally stuck and unable to move forward towards health. To help you get un-stuck we approach this two-part in-home consultation with both a mental health and a family functioning perspective. Our objective is to work with you to make sense of the whole situation, not just the struggling teen, and to generate solutions that will make sense to all of you because they are rooted in a joint understanding of what is really going on.

The first part of the consultation takes place over one full day (9 am - 4 pm) and includes:

  • Document review of any previous assessments (prior to session
  • Webinar session (one hour prior to consultation)
  • Initial meeting with the teen (one hour)
  • Initial meeting with parents (one hour)
  • Break (minimum one hour)
  • Family session with all members of family (1.5 hours)
  • Break (30 minutes)
  • Wrap up consultation and development of plan with all family members (one hour)
  • Write-up of plan (post session)

At the end of the first part of this consultation you should have a better sense of:

· What is at the root of the mental health issues that the teen is experiencing

· How the family dynamics both help and hinder the developmental process of the teen

· How to proceed from here in terms of further reading, therapy, or parenting work over the next few weeks for each family member

The second part of the consultation

The second part of the consultation happens approximately two weeks following, when family members have had some time to think and process. This follow-up takes place over the course of a morning (9 am – 12:30 pm) and is planned in accordance with the needs determined in the first session, and will include the following components:

  • Customized educational session with parents on limit-setting and attunement (2 hours)
  • Therapy session with teen (1 hour)
  • Planning with parents and teen (30 minutes)

At this point the consultation should be complete and parents and teen can determine how they would like to move forward. Resources within the existing support system may be utilized, and Creekside Therapy may or may not play a further role.

Fees

The fee for this two-part comprehensive assessment is $1500. A deposit of $1000 is payable prior to the initial session. The remaining $500 is payable prior to the second session.
