Parents of troubled teens often find that services are ineffective in getting at the root of the issues for their teen. Diagnoses are confusing, medications often don’t make a big difference, and strategies for addressing behavior are often difficult to apply in real life situations. Parents can find themselves ping-ponging from service providers to emergency rooms, to psychiatric appointments, with no definitive answers and no real or lasting results.
With a combined 60 years of experience, Dr. Victoria Creighton and Liz van Ryn understand the difficulties of accessing help that is actually helpful to teens and their families. We’re here to share the good news that you have the tools to deal with your troubled teen. In fact, we believe that you are the tool (no pun intended). When mental health and behavioral issues are seen through the lens of the Maturity Model (see the Webinar under the Resources tab), your child’s struggles are easier to understand, and the pathway for positive intervention becomes clear and do-able. Moreover, when your child begins to see themselves as slightly off the normal developmental trajectory, instead of “mentally ill,” they begin to regain some of the hope that they had lost.
We are excited to welcome you to the Parenting the Extreme Teen Intensive—a two-night, three-day retreat designed to foster personal growth and transformation. This immersive experience follows the Satir model for personal development, with a focus on:
· Increasing Self-Esteem
· Expanding Self-Awareness
· Encouraging Self-Responsibility
· Valuing Congruent Living
In our two and a half day intensive workshop you will be invited to go deep inside to find the resources you already have, and to explore how to use them effectively to develop the structure, boundaries, attunement, compassion, and emotional regulation that you and your child need to get through this phase in your lives.
Through guided exploration, you will explore relationship patterns, coping strategies, and family dynamics. With self-compassion as our foundation, we will support one another in recognizing personal choices and embracing self-responsibility.
After supporting so many families successfully through their work at the Pine River Institute, Victoria and Liz can confidently assert that you are the very best answer to your child’s difficulties. We will help you develop the self awareness to set the trajectory for your own unique growth and competence, and we guarantee that it will be transformational.
